Target Audience

The target audience would be people who are into Action - RPG games, as that is what the game is going to be based on. The game would have to be 16+ as it would include violence and graphic content not suitable for minors. Also, it would be for people who want to experience a gameplay perspective from two characters both from different species of humans, trying to escape their home in order to find what life is like outside of it. As well as this, the type of fighting style would be with sticks and spears, and bows and arrows, as it is meant to be in a age of time where modern day weapons were not present.

Test Tree - Experimentation

This is my custom made tree I had made in Maya and I had done this as part of some software research as I wanted to know how to use Maya properly and make trees and other plants in it, but I wanted to start out with a tree to get the basics of how to use Maya and make the tree. I had done this by putting in a basic Birch Tree with a few leaves and changed some of the settings and positioning of the branches, twigs and leaves to make it look like an actual tree..

Clothing Research

During this project, I had a look into some of the clothes that Neanderthals and Homo sapiens would have worn during the time of the Ice Age. They would have worn similar clothes to the pictures which are from Game Of Thrones, as it would have been drastically cold and they would have needed to have full body clothing to protect themselves from the harsh weather. It would have been animal fur from a lot of creatures put together to make one big blanket, which would have been thrown around the body or have a belt of some sort to hold it together. Also, they would have had a lot of layers of fur to help them keep warm as well as for the little protection that they provide. They would have most likely, worn a hat or fur scarf to protect their head as heat is lost from the head first,

Neanderthal Anatomy Research

I have also, been looking into the anatomy of the Neanderthals and how their body is formed. The Neanderthals are generally quite short in height and have a stocky body. Their shoulder bones are quite prominent but, their shoulder blades are quite short. They have a barrelled rib cage which is quite different to the normal shape of a rib cage. Their cranium was overall bigger than humans today which means they had a larger brain too.The Neanderthals were also recognisable from their bun shape at the back of the skull.
The Neanderthals had a lot of muscle over their body too, from keeping fit and doing a lot of work hunting animals and building houses, and also from their eating style.

Tree Maya

This is some software research that I had did on a tree. I had done this as I wanted to be able to know how to make a natural thing in Maya if I was going to do any work in Maya. I had found a tutorial online as well as prior knowledge on how to get a shape to extrude to a curve, as I wanted the tree to have branches coming off of it. The tutorial was very beneficial as it had helped me to make the tree how I wanted it to be and also, gave me a little bit of help on how to use Maya and where all of the tools are located.

Female Concept Art

This is my concept art for my Female character that I will be doing, I had created this from what I had learnt prior to doing this. I used a variety of different brushes to help me get the fur looking texture, I also used a lot of blending options for the layers to make the colours actually blend into the fur that I had drawn. The colours I had used were brown and maroon to blend with each other as they go well with the opposing colour. This design is the concept art for a skirt for the female character .

Neanderthal and Homo Sapien Comparison

Neanderthals and Homo sapiens had some things in common and a lot of differences from their anatomical structure to their behavior patterns. The biggest differences is that the Neanderthals had a larger cranium than the Homo sapiens, which also shows how they had a larger brain capacity. The Neanderthals were also recognisable from their bun shape at the back of the skull. The Neanderthal also, had larger body parts than the Homo sapiens such as their rib cage, as it was a lot broader than the Homo sapiens, their elbow joints and ankle joints were also a lot larger than the Homo sapiens. Though the Neanderthals on average were a lot smaller than the Homo sapiens, and had a lowered cranium too.

The Homo sapiens were more smarter than the Neanderthals with problem solving and social orginization, while the Neanderthals were more focused on maintaining their bodies. The Neanderthals had a larger brain capacity and brain than the Homo sapiens but they did not use it a lot to solve problems or for other intelligent uses rather, they had used it for their health and to keep their body fit, and also, they did not have a good social life as they did not have the same type of relationship that the Homo sapiens had with other types of Homo sapiens. Whereas the Homo sapiens were not very concerned on their body health but rather things of intelligence.

Homo Sapien Research

Homo sapiens is the only extant human species, and was in contrast to the Neanderthals. Homo sapiens origin was located around Africa and was very common in countries around it too. Homo sapiens are typically known as Behaviourally Modern Humans today and they used to co-exist with other types of human spieces, especially the Neanderthals. The Homo sapiens have an overall smaller frame than the Neanderthals as they were quite big during the time period they were around in. They had remains from 200,000 years ago found in Africa, and have relocated to other countries since.

Development Of Cave Drawing

This is the development of my cave texture. I had done this to use in the final Photoshop piece, but with a little less detail. It was going to be in the cave that the two characters were in but, due to the cave being to small for detail I had decided to remove it from there and put the characters outside of the cave. This had also helped me to think of the positioning and stances of my characters as I have done with the stick men in the drawings.

Fur Texture

This was my second fur texture that I did during this project. I had tried to make it similar to a fox tail but made the colours more darkened towards maroon. I had used various brushes that I had created to help me create the fur texture on the tail.

Ice Age & The Last Glacial Period Research

An Ice age is a period of long time in which the Earth's temperature decreases greatly resulting in an expansion of the polar sheets and glaciers. The causes of an Ice age are not fully understood as it could be down to many things but not a major thing in particular, such as the atmospheres compostion which links to the carbon dioxide and methane, changes in the earth's orbit around the Sun , the motion of tectonic plates resulting in changes in the location and amount of continental and oceanic crust on the earth's surface, which can also affect wind and ocean currents, variations in solar output from the sun, the dynamics of the Earth and Moon system.

The Last Glacial Period, was the most recent glacial period that had
happened 110,000 to 12,000 years ago and ended 11,700 years ago. This Glacial Period had covered large parts of Europe, South America, North America and expanded Antartica's surface area as the polar sheets had builded up on it. A lot of the polar sheets or other ice forms were permanent and had changed a lot of the climates around the world though some areas of the world were not affected.

Texture Experimentation

This was some experimenting I did on fur texture to see how I could manipulate the fur to get it to look more realistic. I think this was helpful as I had learned a lot about creating my own brushes and using a variety of them to get the texture I wanted.

Asset List

This is my asset list, it has all of the estimations for my time frame of my work. I am going to try to stick to this schedule but, if I finish a certain asset on the list quicker than I had planned then I will divide my team equally to other assets.

Textures

These are some textures I did of cave paintings. I was thinking to include them into my final Photoshop piece, where the two female and male characters were going to be, so the could see the previously done cave paintings. I had learnt how to do this from a tutorial and that tutorial had helped me to get the type of design I had wanted for the texturing of the rock. I had also added a light to it to make the rock have shadows and look more realistic. The second image is the image of the rock texture that was made from the tutorial on the tutorials site. I am very happy with the outcome of the tutorial as it was very useful for the work that I was trying to make.

Neanderthal Research

I have been doing some research on Neanderthals and how they looked like, as well as moved around and also acted. Neanderthals were thought to exist over 200,000 years ago and were thought to be extinct 28,000 years ago. They are a subspecies of the humans and were closely related to the modern day humans with around 99.5% matching DNA. Their remains are still found around the world to this day, including skulls, teeth and bones. A lot of remains for the Neanderthals where found around most of Western Europe, Central Europe, Ukraine, Western Russia, Central and Northern Asia and Western Asia, this also infers that the Neanderthals lived in the Eastern parts of the world. Neanderthals had a lot more robust build than humans now, and had a lot of morphological features, most noticably with their cranium. As well as this, a genetic study in 2007 has shown that Neanderthals possibly have red hair and blonde hair as well as a lighter skin tone. Neanderthals are also, suggested to have a large eye socket capacity inferring that they have better eye sight than modern humans today and noticeably a larger cranium than modern humans too.

Human Anatomy

I have been looking at different types of Human Anatomy during the past week. I have been looking at how the human skeleton looks, and how muscle is formed and where it is located on the human body. The skeleton is made up of bones and is well stuctured to support the muscle on the human body and also, the organs, as well as this the human skeleton has quite a big cranium which supports and protects the brain, and the shape is overall round. It is also, quite tough and is quite hard to break through but is weak in the sense that it can be snapped. A human skeleton is compossed up of 207 bones when a human is born but decreases down to 206 when a human reaches adulthood. Joints between the bones allow for movement which ranges from a wide to small range, these joints also allow for cetain body parts to rotate around. This movement is allowed by the skeletal mucsles as they give the body the mass to be able to move around. The sex detirmined by a skeleton is quite hard to work out as the differences are quite subtle between the two sexes. Usually long bones within a human skeleton is larger within a human male rather than a human female, also the skull has a variety of morphological traits that show sexual dimorphism (this is when two sexes of the same species exhibit different characteristics other than the basics which are the difference in sexual organs).
